thoughts on fish in muddy waters
Posted on March 31st, 2009 No commentswhen a fish rises to the top of muddy waters, one of two things is true – either it is belly up dead or it is coming up for fresh air. the strong don’t accept the former, as terrible conditions only strengthen their resolve to survive. with less fish around, there is more food for them, less bumping into each other as they travel, more mates from which to choose, etc etc. what if the reason why they are coming to the surface has nothing to do with how bad the waters are below? what if, instead, it was more a matter of how great the waters are when they’re muddy? not trying to wax too philosophical here, but maybe it’s pessimistic to assume they’re gasping for air. maybe they enjoy a challenge and are short of breath from their excitement! with a shifted tide and muddy waters, which fish are you?

star power, mojo and the bottom line
Posted on March 30th, 2009 No commentstiger woods won another tourney this past weekend. i know, not at all surprising. what is remarkable is the immediate and significant impact stars like tiger have on stimulating consumer interest and/or spending. according to nielsen media research and nbc tv, the overnight numbers turned in by tiger’s latest win were the highest rating of any golf tournament since the u.s. open in june (which woods won in a playoff). despite what you might expect to see, the rating was up 23 percent from last year. tiger wasn’t the only star pulling consumers out of hibernation – read on for my thoughts on star power, mojo and the bottom line.
