flashback series: 1925 chrysler ads
Posted on April 30th, 2009 No commentsmy fiancee owns a chrysler – the crossfire. i once owned a turismo that i jokingly referred to as my tri-turbo turismo. my grandmother owned one of those ugly chrysler sedans. the fact is that many of us have put our faith in the brand, even if only for a short period of time. now, chrysler is once again in trouble. this time, it could be the beginning of the end for a brand that began in 1925.

thoughts on shopping for creativity
Posted on April 29th, 2009 No commentsi had a phone call today with a prospective client who is shopping for a website designer. i say “shopping” because she seems to be looking at my website and other projects i’ve directed like they’re products on a shelf to be bought or not bought on an “as is” basis. of course, i’m familiar with the school of thought where you look at someone’s portfolio and decide if he/she has the same style as you. i just feel that it’s extremely limiting. you can’t shop effectively for creativity in this manner because website design and many other services are largely custom explorations. every new challenge warrants a suitable response/solution. you also need to be mindful that your website is intended for others to embrace – which means that your taste is only part of what’s relevant to the project.

– japanese proverb“why are we so frightened of what is? what is the good of running away if whatever we are is always there.”
– krishnamurti“if you don’t have enough to eat, work on getting enough to eat. if you can’t keep warm in winter, work on getting sufficient clothing. if you don’t have enough time to enjoy yourself, work toward getting leisure time. but when you have enough, you should stop.”

the miniature world of favicons and .ico files
Posted on April 29th, 2009 No commentswant to create a favicon for your website? not sure what one is? a favicon is that little custom icon that appears to the left of a website’s url in the address bar of your web browser. they also show up in bookmarks, on tabs in tabbed browsers and as the icon for internet shortcuts on your desktop. they are just 16 x 16 pixels in size. but be forewarned, creating one is a bit trickier than you’d think. with the small dimensions comes constraints and decisions to be made. click on for more.
