i art directed a photoshoot at the historic atlas performing arts center in northeast washington dc yesterday. the venue survived the riots of the late 60s with its original marquis in place, and (as of 2006) is a stunning achievement in renovation ($22 million). my client for the shoot was dick kaufmann, a 70-year old recording artist with a golden smile who has been working with lee musiker – the musical director behind 15-time grammy award winner tony bennett and tony award winner barabra cooke. also on hand were splashkit photographer april sims and jonathan g. willen, an event management consultant who is helping dick with all arrangements with the atlas.
