  purple rain, prince’s blockbuster album from the mid-80s (1984), is celebrating its 25th anniversary. this music was critical to not only my development as a recording artist (9Davine.com) but also many of my generation’s leading songwriters. to honor the occasion, listen here to a podcast from soundopinions.org that dissects the purple rain album, and watch the mtv retrospective of the movie premiere event. in the podcast, former revolution band members wendy melvoin and lisa coleman discuss their relationship with prince and the making of the landmark record.
