WMATA / DC Metro Re-Branding

while i’m certain it’s at least a partial response to recent negative publicity, i caught the current radio ads from the washington metropolitan area transit authority’s (wmata) today and was impressed. the takeaway is that they’ve made a new commitment to “responsibility” that includes a new line of environmentally-friendly buses and greater accountability to citizens’ transportation needs. i don’t know yet whether there will be a major difference behind this push (i did notice that their website home page is largely unchanged), but the radio bit is effective. hopefully, they’re smart enough to follow this through to results. their reputation has not been the best in my 10+ years in the region.
