MLB Pitcher Working Summer Internship in DC

love this story. some may remember that i blogged about former yankees and now pittsburgh pirates pitcher ross ohlendorf being the “smartest player in baseball” (according to espn’s tim kurkjian). well, he’s at it again. espn reports that the pitcher is sharing an office at the usda in a 20-hour a week internship. he decided to pursue the position in the offseason from baseball because the knowledge he’d gained would directly benefit a longhorn business he owns in austin, texas. teammate zach duke has this to say about princeton graduate ohlendorf: “he’s a guy who has an unquenched thirst for knowledge. this is something he’s very passionate about, and if he can learn more about the industry and things that can affect his business in a positive way, he’s going to do it.” i need to meet this guy, as we have a ton in common. business owners — don’t put learning on hold. stay ahead of the pack in your industry but knowing more than your competitors.
